FAQ

Our frequently asked questions are located below. Please feel free to contact us for any additional questions you may have.

1. How do I know my windows and doors need replaced?

Your home could be a candidate for new windows and doors if:

  1. Windows and doors become drafty and/or difficult to operate.
  2. Signs of wood rot or general deterioration, fogged glass, and/or warped frames.
  3. You simply want an upgrade to improve energy efficiency or better design features.

2. What is the difference between insert and full frame replacement methods?

Full frame replacement requires the removal of the entire existing frame. This is the preferred method and allows for the opportunity to inspect surrounding wall conditions and keep existing daylight openings. While the insert method leaves the original frame in place, this method is used when the existing frame is in good condition and permits the interior/exterior trim to stay intact.

3. Can you covert a window to a door or vice versa?

Yes, this is something we do quite often. We can take care of structural requirements and brick work, if needed.

4. What is clad exterior?

A term used to describe the exterior covering of a wood window. There are four common types of clad exterior:

  1. Extruded Aluminum – The strongest and most durable, approximately the thickness of a nickel and allows for detailed profiles.
  2. Composite Fiberglass – Ultrex, from Integrity, expands and contract at the same rate as glass with superior strength.
  3. Roll Formed Aluminum – Approximately the thickness of a soda can, considered a low cost, low quality method.
  4. Vinyl – Least effective, lowest quality method. Moves, fades, and deteriorates with exposure to the sun.
